WHAT:

Below are details for Week One of Baseball during the third annual Elite Development Invitational (EDI), which is operated by Major League Baseball and USA Baseball in partnership with the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), at Historic Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Fla. Week One of Baseball includes approximately 130 amateur players with diverse backgrounds (ages 13-14) in a one-week program geared toward providing elite training and instruction opportunities from former Major League Players and Coaches. 

 

This year’s Elite Development Invitational will include a week geared toward softball players for the first time.  Week Two of Baseball, featuring players ages 15 to 17, will be hosted from Friday, July 21st through Tuesday, July 25th.  Softball Week will be held from Friday, July 28th through Tuesday, August 1st. The players for each week were selected by a combination of the following groups: MLB Youth Academy network, Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program, Major League Baseball, the Major League Baseball Players Association, and individual active and former players. The event is made possible through joint funding by MLB and the MLBPA.

 

WHO:

The EDI features appearances and presentations from MLB, MLBPA and USA Baseball personnel, including Tony Reagins (MLB Senior Vice President of Youth Programs), Del Matthews (MLB Sr. Director of Baseball Development), Dave Winfield (Hall of Famer & MLBPA Advisor to the Executive Director), Omar Minaya (MLBPA Senior Advisor to the Executive Director), Jeffrey Hammonds (former Major League All-Star and current MLBPA Special Assistant for Player Program Development), Javier Vazquez (former Major League All-Star and current MLBPA Special Assistant) and Jerry Manuel (MLB Youth Programs Consultant).  Former Major & Minor League Players and Coaches for Week One of Baseball include the following:

1:30 – 4:00 p.m.: Defense, Baserunning, Cages, Games

 

Monday, July 17th (Time – TBD) – Ken Griffey Jr.

Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. will make an appearance the morning of Jul 17th to speak to the youth players.  MLB will inform media of exact timing.

 

Tuesday, July 18th, 7:00 p.m. – Evening Presentation by Bo Porter (Special Asst. to the General Manager, Atlanta Braves; Former Major League Manager & Coach)
