SAVE THE DATE for the 11th Annual Hibiscus Festival on Saturday, April 12th from 10:00am to 8:00pm. Friday night, April 11th at 7:00pm Miss Hibiscus will be crowned at the Miss Hibiscus Pageant at The Heritage Center. The Festivalkicks off Saturday, April 12th, with the Hibiscus Festival 5K Run/Walk, a juried and judged Fine Art & Fine Craft Show, the Inaugural Professional Chalk Art Show featuring award-winning professional chalk artist Jennifer Chaparro and all genres of Music along the streets and on the Main Stage including the headliner band SOLID☆GOLD.  Plus, also new this year is Downtown’s first-ever Food Truck Frenzy with The Buggy Bunch, the annual Treasure & Space Coast Radio Shopping Cart Parade that benefits The Harvest Food & Outreach Center and numerous Children’s Activities and music on the Youth Stage.   There are still Sponsorship Opportunities available from $250 – $8,000 that include booth space for this year’s Festival. The Hibiscus Festival Marketing Plan, sponsorship information and the sponsor commitment form may be found at http://www.HibiscusFestival.org.

The event begins Friday night, April 11, 2014 at 7:00pm when Miss Hibiscus is crowned at the Miss Hibiscus Pageant at The Heritage Center 2140 14th Avenue. Open to all young women ages 15-19 who reside in Indian River County. The young women are awarded points for public speaking and their involvement in activities and community service.  Miss Hibiscus 2013 will preside over the Hibiscus Festival on April 12th and holds the honor for one year. The winner of the Miss Hibiscus Pageant receives $500 and prizes donated by local businesses.  Second place winner will earn $300 plus prizes and third place wins $200 plus prizes.  The honors of “Miss Congeniality” and “Most Photogenic” are also awarded.  The tiara for Miss Hibiscus is courtesy of John Michael Matthews Fine Jewelry.  “Most Photogenic” wins a photography shoot by J. Scott Kelley owner of Island Images Professional Photography.  Pageant Chair, Elizabeth Graves Bass was Miss Hibiscus in 1950’s.

The Festivalkicks off Saturday morning, April 12, 2014 with the Hibiscus Festival 5K Run/Walk at 7:00am that is Runner’s Depot timed and certified from the Vero Beach Municipal Airport to the Historical Society 2336 14th Avenue, 32960. The first 200 runners will be given T-shirts and special awards will be given for the overall male and female winner, overall male and female masters, and 1st to 3rd place in the following age groups: 1-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+. The juried and judged Fine Art and Fine Craft Show is all day from 10:00am – 8:00pm and will feature artist creations and designs in Ceramics, Digital Art, Fiber, Glass, Graphics, Jewelry, Metal, Mixed Media, Oils/Acrylic, Photography, Sculpture, Watercolor, and Wood.  The show will award at least $500 in prize money.

The Festival’s Inaugural Professional Chalk Art Show is from 10:00am – 4:30pm and will feature Jennifer Chaparro, an internationally renowned professional street painting artist (www.AmazingStreetPainting.com), who will be creating a 3-D chalk art piece and heading up a select group of nationally ranked and award winning professional chalk artists.  Cash prizes will be awarded for 1st Place $300, 2nd Place $200 and 3rd Place $100. “We’re excited to have Jennifer’s help and expertise in adding this exciting art medium to the Festival. 

The Music starts at 10:00am and will go until 8:00pm and feature, at various venues along the street, the Blue Cypress Blue Grass Band, C J and Erin Rich, Jackie Steil, Barbara Gomulka, Alex Barker, Trevor Klutz, Emily Finch, Old Barber Bridge, MJ Wicker, Rick Wheeler and many more.  Then at 4:00pm the Indian River Charter High School Wolves Ensemble will kick off the evening concert and take the Main Stage as the opener for the featured headliner band at 5:00pm “SOLID☆GOLD” www.solidgoldmusic.com.  An award winning group they feature touring musicians that have worked and recorded with: Anita Baker, Michael Bolton, The Temptations, Tina Turner, Patti Austin, Najee, Hubert Laws, Jonathan Butler & Dennis Yost & the Classics IV.  Voted #1 (2008-present) they perform regularly at the finest country clubs, exclusive private parties, wedding & select theaters. SOLID☆GOLD also features finalists from ‘AMERICAN IDOL’ & ‘THE VOICE’ for special performance engagements.

Main Street Vero Beach is very excited to be collaborating with The Buggy Bunch www.thebuggybunch.ning.com to present downtown’s first ever Food Truck Frenzy from 10:00am – 8:00pm www.facebook.com/FoodTruckFrenzyVeroBeach. This movable culinary event is the Festival’s provider of fun food and fine cuisine throughout the day.  “Did you know that Hibiscus flowers are edible?,” asked Janie Hoover, Festival Chairperson.  “Several of the participants will be offering a true taste of the Hibiscus Festival featuring the flower in an edible creation, stated Kelly Sartain, The Buggy Bunch Executive Director.”

Treasure and Space Coast Radio will be again hosting the Shopping Cart Parade at 3:00pm a fun, annual FOODraising event benefitting The Harvest Food & Outreach Center. Participants pledge to decorate and fill a shopping cart onsite at their location leading up to the parade.  They then transport their decorated cart and donations Downtown on the day of the Festival and display their decorated shopping cart in a designated location throughout the event.  At the end of the parade, the food is boxed and loaded onto truck(s) along with the shopping carts and transported to Harvest Food & Outreach Center for distribution Visit YouTube for a video of last year’s fun parade and sign up to participate at http://thebreeze.fm/common/more.php?m=33&r=181.

Exciting Children’s Activities will entertain kids of all ages from 10:00am – 5:00pm.  From Music on the Youth Stage by seven bands including Matthew Fulcher Band, and The Carvajal Sisters & Company, to bounce houses by Call the Moon Man in Heritage Park, to art activities by Osceola Magnet School, face painting, and the Pocahontas Park playground there is certain to be fun for families.
